Abaeté’s Brow-less, Faux-Hawked Dandies

When I went backstage yesterday feather extension at Abaeté the two things that stood out to me were their faux-hawked French braids and brow-less faces. To satisfy my curiosity, I started digging for answers. “Laura was inspired by 18th century, post-French Revolution Dandies,” says Dave Cruz, lead hairstylist for Redken. “She was emailing me these great pictures and I saw this one of a guy—it was a profile shot—and it looked like he had a little bit of a Mohawk with a braid on the back of his head. Clearly, it was a wig or something, but it looked so cool!” Taking the photo as inspiration, Cruz created a do that he humorously refers to as that of an “18th century French rock star.”As for Feather hair the absence of brows, makeup artist Tina Turnbrow for beauty.com says she downplayed arches in order to feminize the look. “We’re taking tarte’s ReCreate foundation—it’s got a lot of coverage—and we’re using that on the brow,” she says. “Lightening the eyebrows immediately softens the Hair extensions face.
